Event Description:

Sammy Chien (AD of Chimerik 似不像) will be leading a creative sharing session revolving the theme of intergenerational dialogue, decolonization, spirituality, interdisciplinary arts and new media technology. Sammy will share the research and story behind their current project Ritual-Spective 迴融--an experimental media arts project with his father, an elder Taiwanese immigrant artist Jackson Chien 簡志雄, as a way to empower immigrant identity and values of familyhood in diaspora/non-Eurocentric cultures, from the lens of an immigrant artist child, as a ritual to honour our past/predecessor in relation to the here and now. We will share some of the process, behind the scene, the demo of the technology and host community discussions.

In the spirit of storytelling, we pause to honour the ancient narratives of this land. We stand upon the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.

Just as we celebrate the diverse voices of immigrant and refugee artists, we recognize the First Peoples who have woven this place's first and enduring tales. Their stories are a testament to resilience, creativity, and the power of community. As we come together from many corners of the world, may we always remember, respect, and learn from the stories that this land holds.
