Earworm — theatre production about Iran's 1979 and 2022 revolutions, co-presented by Blackout Art Society

Earworm

Blackout Art Society

Vancouver Theatre from Toronto

About the play:

Homa, a long-time immigrant from Iran who fled persecution from the Islamic regime, must navigate the complex emotions that arise when her son falls in love with a conservative Muslim woman. As Homa's past resurfaces in present-day Toronto, their future happiness is tested, inviting the audience to empathize with their emotional journey.

Inspired by actual events, EARWORM is a stunning depiction of the far-reaching impact of the Iranian revolutions of 1979 and 2022 through themes of love, power, parenting, and political asylum.

In the spirit of storytelling, we pause to honour the ancient narratives of this land. We stand upon the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.

Just as we celebrate the diverse voices of immigrant and refugee artists, we recognize the First Peoples who have woven this place's first and enduring tales. Their stories are a testament to resilience, creativity, and the power of community. As we come together from many corners of the world, may we always remember, respect, and learn from the stories that this land holds.
