Shilpa Shankar is an emerging Bharatanatyam dance artist. Originally from India, where she received initial training in the dance form under Nirupama Rajendra of Abhinava Dance Company, she currently receives advanced training in Bharatanatyam at Mandala Arts and Culture and has been under the mentorship and guidance of Artistic Director Jai Govinda for the past 4 years. 

 

In the year 2022, she presented her work at the All Over the Map performance series (presented by New Works in collaboration with Granville Island), the Surrey Fusion Festival (hosted by the City of Surrey), the Celebrate Canada event (curated by the Abbotsford Arts Council) among others. 

 

Shilpa is also a Certified Public Accountant working as an assurance professional in a Big 4 accounting firm.

In the spirit of storytelling, we pause to honour the ancient narratives of this land. We stand upon the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and Tsleil-Waututh Nations. 

Just as we celebrate the diverse voices of immigrant and refugee artists, we recognize the First Peoples who have woven this place's first and enduring tales. Their stories are a testament to resilience, creativity, and the power of community. As we come together from many corners of the world, may we always remember, respect, and learn from the stories that this land holds.
